CIRROCUMULUS: EVENING 28TH MAY, 2005: BRACKNELL
(TIME: 1945Z; looking towards the WNW)

Cirrocumulus evening 28th May  Ripples in the CC sheet, of varying wavelengths, with elements very small in places. Only visible as stark as this for about 10 minutes; obviously governed by the angle of the setting sun - 10 mins after this was taken, although the cloud could be seen, it was a very dull affair.
03882 ascent  The 00Z ascent (released around 2300Z) from Herstmonceux later the same evening; probably as representative as we are going to get. I've highlighted the probable altitude band of the CC: the upper winds (right-hand side) confirm the direction of travel of the cloud.
Ice streamers  Ice 'streamers' falling from CC and being sheared away before evaporating in the very dry air below the cloud (see ascent above).
