Location:
Tawfield/Wooden Hill area of SW

(temperatures
[standard screen] degC; rainfall/melted snowfall mm; snow depths cm; ) Readings
taken at 0900 and 1800 UTC. Where the NIGHT maximum
or DAY
minimum are significantly different from figures hereunder, this will be noted
in the accompanying text summary. There are now two mean daily temperatures
shown: the first is the mean of the average day maximum and average night
minimum (A), and the second is the average of the 24hr maximum and 24hr minimum
(B .. as kept formerly) .. the anomalies are shown for this latter figure from
1971-2000 estimated Long Term Averages. Rainfall is credited to the 24hr day
beginning 0900 UTC.

(Notes
relating to temperature & allied observations:
6th/7th:
air minimum of 03.5 degC: probably one of the 10% of coldest early summer nights
in the last half-a-century in the local area.
The
overall 24hr/daily mean temperature anomaly of +1.8degC disguises a marked
change that occurred after mid-month: up to/including 16th, the anomaly on the
whole-month eLTA was struggling at around –1degC: of those 16 days, only 4
experienced maxima >20°C. In the period 17th onwards, only 2 days failed to
achieve that value, with two days [19th & 23rd] exceeding 30°C.)

Additional
comments on the weather in June, 2005
3rd:
slight thunderstorm (single flash / muffled bang) around 1600Z, with further
distant rumbles ~ 1620Z: probably high-base CB and / or mid-level instability
on increasingly active (eastward-moving) trough which turned suddenly thundery
as is passed overhead – ocnl heavy rain associated (see rainfall log
elsewhere);
24th:
slight thunderstorm (irregular/infrequent activity) 1050Z-1150Z, with ocnl
moderate rain (0.9mm) & short period of squally winds, though never above
Bft5; slight, ocnl moderate thunderstorm (circa 1 flash/bang per 30s)
1405Z-1610Z, with periods moderate rain (5.6mm).
28th:
slight thunderstorm activity began 1805Z (light rain), then 'moderate' activity
1840-1850Z (~ 5 to 10 flashes/min) mainly CC/IC, only 2 CG seen here), then
'ceased' as an active local ts by 1900: however, note that *distant* thunder
could be heard up to at least 22Z (northern horizon activity) assw very active
cells reported there – we missed out on the most intense activity this day.
